The Aulonocara sp. Firefish, or Dragon Blood Peacock cichlid is not native to the African rift lakes, but is a hybrid fish, like the OB Peacock cichlid . Nobody really knows where this fish was originally bred but because it is a hybrid, they can be found in various shades of orange, pink and red.

• Adult Size: usually about 5–7 inches; strain dependent
• Temperature: 76–82°F
• pH: 7.5–8.5
• Water Hardness: moderately hard to hard
• Tank Size: 75 gallons or larger; adult male displays may need more space
• Temperament: Territorial; male aggression varies
• Setup: Provide sand, cover, and an open swimming area. Keep a separation option available.
• Diet: Quality peacock-cichlid pellets with appropriate aquatic frozen foods.
• Compatibility: Use suitably sized, compatible peacocks or calmer haps; avoid aggressive mbuna and tiny fish.

Use a fully cycled aquarium, stable water conditions, and regular water changes. Plan space for the animals as they grow.
