Geophagus Balzanii

Geophagus Balzanii (Geophagus balzanii)

Geophagus balzanii is a peaceful South American eartheater cichlid known for its graceful body shape, subtle metallic sheen, and classic sand-sifting behavior. Native to slow-moving rivers and floodplains, this species spends much of its time gently sifting substrate through its gills, making it both fascinating to watch and beneficial for keeping sand beds clean. Balzanii remains calmer and less aggressive than many cichlids, making it an excellent choice for larger community or South American biotope aquariums.

Whether you’re keeping a peaceful cichlid display or building a South American themed aquarium, Geophagus balzanii offers elegant movement, natural behavior, and excellent compatibility with other calm tankmates. Farm-raised in Florida and carefully acclimated, these fish are well suited for home aquariums and adapt readily to stable conditions.
