The Serpae Tetra ( Hyphessobrycon eques ), also called the Red Minor Tetra or Jewel Tetra , is a vibrant, active species that adds a bold flash of color to any aquarium. With their deep red bodies and black dorsal fins, Serpaes make a stunning display when kept in a school of six or more.
These tetras are farm-raised in Florida for superior health and adaptability to aquarium life. They’re easy to care for, making them ideal for both beginners and experienced hobbyists.

- Water Hardness: soft to moderate
- Tank Size: 30 gallons or larger
- Temperament: Active; known fin-nipper
- Setup: Keep eight to ten or more with plants and open swimming room.
- Diet: Flakes, micro-pellets, and small frozen foods.
- Compatibility: Avoid slow, delicate, or long-finned companions; a larger group helps but cannot guarantee compatibility.
Use a fully cycled aquarium, stable water conditions, and regular water changes. Plan space for the animals as they grow.
