Florida Flag Fish (Jordanella floridae), also known as the American Flag Fish, is a native Florida species prized for its striking coloration, algae-eating ability, and suitability for planted aquariums, outdoor ponds, and community aquariums. Raised on our licensed Florida fish farm, these hardy fish are excellent grazers of hair algae and black beard algae.

D&G Farms Observation: We routinely use Florida Flag Fish in our outdoor pools and vats to help control algae growth. Their constant grazing behavior makes them one of our favorite native fish for natural algae management.

• Temperament: Males may be territorial
• Diet: Algae, biofilm, quality pellets, spirulina foods, suitable frozen foods, and blanched vegetables.
• Compatibility: Similarly sized fish; monitor interactions with slow-moving or long-finned fish.

Use a fully cycled aquarium, stable water conditions, and regular water changes. Plan space for the animals as they grow.
