Description
Included in this listing: 12 crayfish: 4 males and 8 females.
Orange CPO Crayfish (Cambarellus patzcuarensis 'Orange'), also called Mexican Dwarf Crayfish, Dwarf Orange Crayfish, or Mexican Mini Lobsters, are one of the most popular dwarf crayfish in the aquarium hobby. The wild species comes from Lake Pátzcuaro in Mexico, and the bright orange color is selectively bred. Our CPO crayfish are raised on our licensed Florida aquaculture farm and shipped with our Live Arrival Guarantee.
Size: Adults reach about 1.5 to 2 inches.
Tank Size: 5 to 10 gallons minimum. Give a group more room.
Temperature: 65 to 77°F. They prefer cooler water and don't need a heater in most homes.
pH: 6.5 to 8.0. They're hardy and handle a wide range of water.
Lifespan: Around 2 to 3 years.
Diet: Omnivorous scavengers. Feed sinking pellets, shrimp or crayfish food, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables.
Unlike large crayfish, CPOs won't uproot plants, and they rarely bother fish, so they're a good fit for nano aquariums and planted tanks. Calm fish that stay in the middle and upper parts of the tank make good tank mates. Avoid large or aggressive fish that will eat them.
Give them caves, rocks, driftwood, or plants to hide in, especially when they molt, because a newly molted crayfish is soft and vulnerable. Keep a tight-fitting lid, since crayfish climb and escape. Never use medications that contain copper.
CPO crayfish breed easily in the aquarium. Females carry their eggs under the tail until fully formed baby crayfish hatch, so you can grow your colony from just a few.
Bright orange color, a small size, and peaceful, active behavior make the Orange CPO Dwarf Crayfish a standout in freshwater aquariums.
